The insurer will pay out € 114 million due to Wimbledon’s cancellation
Wimbledon is one of 34 tennis tournaments that have been dropped due to the coronavirus crisis, but also the only one to receive some cash into the box office. Thanks to a pandemic insurance, the insurance company will pay him € 114 million.
Leaders from the All England Club included a pandemic case in insurance in 2003 at the time of the sars virus, and they had to deduct 1.7 million euros in insurance each year, according to The Times. The other two big straws in tennis – Roland Garros moved to September from late May and early June and the US Open scheduled at the end of August – have no similar insurance, so they are threatened with a $ 250 million financial hole in the event of a cancellation.
The Wimbledon Tournament Tennis Association of Great Britain has announced that it will distribute part of the proceeds – more specifically € 23 million – to clubs, tournaments, referees, players and others affected by the new coronavirus pandemic.
